A First 360 View Photo

With Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) being all the rage, tools for 360 degree views are getting better. Even this WordPress blog can display 360 degree photos directly in a blog post.

The following image was taken from inside Unity 3D using 360 Panorama Capture with flat images of various characters (posed and then exported from Adobe Character Animator) placed in the scene. I purchased the excellent Japanese School scene asset from TirGames for backgrounds which made this shot possible. You can drag the image around to look around the school’s front corridor.

YouTube also has support for 360 videos – which raises interesting possibilities of recording a character in Character Animator then placing the video inside Unity 3D to provide an animated 360 view – assuming Unity to support a video format with transparencies.
